Charlies Animal Rescue Centre – CARE was started in January 2013 by a group of animal lovers who felt that Bangalore city was in dire need of an animal shelter where stray and abandoned animals could be housed, given timely medical aid, rehabilitated and rehomed. The inspiration behind the Trust is Charlie, a 10 year old 3 legged Indian dog who is a therapy dog and who has been doing amazing work with specially abled children in the field of Animal Assisted Therapy since 2005.

The Trust was formed with 3 Trustees who have years of experience in the field of animal welfare. The Trust was registered on 18.1.2013. The Trust also enjoys Income tax Exemption u/s 80G of the Income tax Act vide Order no. DIT(E)BLR/80G/G-39/AABTC4700C/ITO(E)-1/Vol.2013-14/MANUAL dated 14.6.2013.

The task of setting up an Animal Shelter ,accessible to the people of Bangalore city was a big challenge and in this direction we have taken up a piece of land on rent measuring approximately half an acre at Survey no.19/1,Jakkur Village,Yelahanka Hobli for the purpose of the Animal rescue Centre. The Shelter is now functional.

Built on half an acre of land in Jakkur village, very close to the picturesque Jakkur Lake. The CARE Shelter has the following activities:

  • Ambulance service from 9am to 5pm for injured ,sick and abandoned street animals
  • Helpline for animals in distress – 9am to 5pm
  • Holiday Boarding facility for dogs and cats
  • Housing, rehabilitation and re-homing of abandoned animals
  • 24 hour veterinary care
  • Adoption of pups, kittens, dogs and cats
  • Inpatient facility for sick and injured animals
  • Cattery

In order to enhance the existing facility, we are in the process of constructing a Medical Centre in the same premises which will consist of an OPD, Operation Theatre, X Ray and Scanning facility – all this for the street animals. Work on the same has commenced and we require the support of animal lovers to help us make this facility functional.

We are also adding 3 new Units – a Cat Treatment Unit, Pup and Kitten Nursery and a HangOut space for our shelter doggies. The Care Shelter is also home to about 20 dogs who are either blind, 3 legged, paraplegic, who have serious ailments and who require constant care, medical attention and love. These dogs will live at CARE for the rest of their lives.

There are also 3 fat kitties – Oscar, Hitler and Kush who were adopted from the CUPA Shelter when it closed down and who have made a niche for themselves at CARE.
